The Franklin-Simpson Lady Cats outscored the Russellville Lady Panthers 20-9 in the 4th Quarter as Jasmine Savage’s 3-pointer with 1.6 seconds left helped the Lady Cats to a 45-32 victory over the Lady Panthers Wednesday night at the F-S Gym on Frank Cardwell Court.
The Lady Cats remain on top of the 13th District at 4-0 and extended their district win streak to 17 games.
Franklin-Simpson struggled to score in the first three quarters of the game. Katelyn McAlister, who made four 3-pointers in the game, made two in the 1st Half with
Malyea Partinger, and Kloie Smith each scored four points with two points from Naja Nolan. The Lady Panthers got 10 points from Lareesha Cawthorne and Jaeda Poindexter buried a couple of 3-pointers in the 2nd Quarter as the Lady Cats trailed 23-16 at halftime.
Franklin-Simpson trailed 33-25 heading into the 4th Quarter where their defense led to quick scoring. Paringer scored four points with two each from: Lyniah Brown, Ashanti Johnson and Smith for a 35-33 lead. Brown and McAlistet’s 3-pointer kept the Lady Cats’ leading, 40-39. Savage scored the final five points. Her short bank shot extended their lead to three, 42-39. Jordin Morris tied the game for Russellville at 42-42 but Savage’s 3-pointer with 1.6 seconds left gave Franklin-Simpson the dramatic come from behind 45-42 victory.
Katelyn McAlister led the Lady Cats with a game high of 12 points with Malyea Partinger scoring 10. Lsreesha Cawthorne led the LadyPpanthers also with a game high of 12 points with Jaeda Poindexter scoring 11 points and Jordin Morris adding 10.
The two teams will run it back again on Friday night but this time at the Panther Gym on Jim Young Court at Russellville High School. Tip-off time for the girls/boys varsity doubleheader is at 6:00 p.m. with WFKN Radio broadcasting the game starting at around 5:50 p.m.
Franklin-Simpson can wrap up the 13th District regular season championship and the top seed in the upcoming 13th District Tournament with a win over Russellville
