Franklin-Simpson Lady Cats outscored the Logan County Lady Cougars 17-3 in the 2nd Quarter to go on for the 52-31 victory on Friday night at the F-S Gym on Homecoming.
Jasmine Savage buried two 3-pointers in the 1st QUarter with freshman basketball Homecoming Queen candidate Kloie Smith scoring three points for the Lady Cats. Franklin-Simpson turned up the defensive pressure in the 2nd Quarter as they held the Lady Cougars to one field goal, three points overall. Katelyn McAlister bookended the quarter with a pair of 3-pointers as Ashanti Johnson and Naja Nolan, the sophomore Homecoming Queen candidate, each scored a basket as the Lady Cats led 28-10 at halftime.
With Smith scoring three points and Savage connecting her 3-pointer of the game, Franklin-Simpson scored the first eight points of the game to extend their lead to 36-10. Vanessa Ray added four points with two points each from Malyea Partonger and Jayden Spears. Lyniah Brown scored three points with Sa’Nya Downey making a free throw in the 4th Quarter. Cayleigh Thompson scored the final basket of the game off an assist from Tahlia Spencer gave the Lady Cats a 52-31 victory.
Franklin-Simpson finished 13th District play unbeaten and extended their district win streak to 19 games. The Lady Cats, who will be the number one seed in the upcoming 13th District Girls’ Basketball Tournament hosted by Todd County Central, will play the Russellville Lady Panthers in their opening round game.
No player from either team scored in double figures but Jasmine Savage and Kloie Smith led the Lady Cats each with nine points. Emily Borders and Emerson McKinnis led the Lady Cougars with six points each.
The Lady Cats will play at the Warren East Lady Raiders on Tuesday night at 6:00 p.m. WFKN radio will broadcast the gir;s/boys doubleheader starting at around 5:50 p.m.
