The Franklin-Simpson Swim Cats wrapped up their season at the Region 2 Meet on Feb, 3rd and 4th at the Owensboro Health park hosted by Apollo High School with the boys’ team finishing 8th overall in the team rankings.
“The teams in our region are always exceptional and just about all of them have a pool in their community, making our competition pretty tough,” Swim Cats’ head coach Mandy Brown said, “So I was very proud of our entire team’s effort at the Region 2 Meet a couple of weeks ago. Many of our swimmers are involved in multiple sports or other school clubs and activities.”
The Swim Cats swam exceptionally against other schools from around the region. Both boys’ relay teams qualified to compete at the KHSAA State Swim Meet at the University of Kentucky in Lexington on the weekend of Feb. 17th.
The team finished 5th overall in the Boys 200 Medley Relay. The team that consisted of: freshman Josh Jordan, junior Payton Brown, 7th grader Tucker Zeman and junior Kody Alexander swam a time of 2:00.03 in the preliminaries and a time of 1:59.60 in the finals.
The team finished 6th in the Boys’ 200 Freestyle Relay. The tram that consisted of: Alexander, Brown, 8th grader Sam Satterly and Zeman swam a time of 1:46.17 for 8th place in the preliminaries and a time of 1:43.51 in the finals.
The Swim Cats also finished 6th in the Boys’ 400 Freestyle Relay, The team that consisted of: sophomore Kris Cummings, freshman Andrew Coates, junior Brevin Scott and 8th grader Sam Satterly swam a time of 4:35.87 for 6th place in the preliminaries and a time of 4:26.37 in the finals.
8th grader Sarah Beth Schlosser finished 15th overall in the Girls’ 50 Freestyle and in the 100 Breaststroke.. In the freestyle, she finished 13th with a time of 30.56 in the preliminaries and swam a time of 30.72 in the finals. In the breaststroke, she finished 19th in the preliminaries with a time of 1:31.23.
Alexander qualified for the finals of the Boys’ 50 Freestyle and the 100 Backstroke. In the freestyle, he swam a time of 24.64 to finish 6th in the preliminaries but due to a false start in the finals, he was disqualified. In the backstroke, he swam a time of 1:09.15 to finish 13th in the preliminaries and a time of 1:08.72 in the finals to finish 13th overall. Freshman Josh Jordan also competed in the Boys’ 100 Backstroke. He swam a time of 1”11.68 yo finish 14th in the preliminaries and swam a time of 1:12.17 to finish 15th overall in the finals.
Brown competed in the Boys’ 100 Breaststroke. In the preliminaries, he swam a time of 1:16.62 to finish 9th and also finished 9th overall in the finals by swimming a time of 1:14.47.
Andrew Coates and sophomores Benjamin Coates and Cummings also competed in the 100 Breaststroke. In the preliminaries, Cummings finished 21st with a time of 1:26.71 with Andrew Coates finishing 23rd with a time of 1:29.47 and Benjamin Coates finishing 27th with a time of 1:39.99.
Zeman competed in the Boys’ 200 Individual Medley. He finished 12th overall with a time of 2:35 to finish 12th in the preliminaries and swam a time of 2:36.66 in the finals.
Senior Mollie Fowler competed in the Girls’ 100 Backstroke and Freestyle. In the preliminaries, she finished 27th in the backstroke with a time of 1:26.05 and finished 23rd in the freestyle with a time of 1:16 in the preliminary.
Freshman Maggie Schlosser also competed in the Girls’ 100 Backstroke and finished 30th in the preliminaries with a time of 1:34.28.
Andrew Coates, Satterly and Zeman both competed in the Boys’ 100 Freestyle. In the preliminaries, Satterly finished 19th with a time of 1:02.27 with Zeman finishing 21st with a time of 1:02.84 and Coates finished 30th with a time of 1:09.89.
And in the Boys’ 200 Freestyle, Satterly finished 19th in the preliminaries with a time of 2:06.41 and Benjamin coates finished 25th also in the preliminaries with a time of 2:56.43.
“FSHS Swim Team has had a great season,” Brown said.. “We are a young team with only one senior this year, Mollie Fowler. Our team is small and requires a lot of dedication. Commuting to practice in Bowling Green everyday is a huge commitment for all of us.”
