Franklin-Simpson Middle School celebrated 8th Grade Night in emotional fashion as the Lady Cats defeated the Russellville Lady Panthers this past Thursday night at the F-S Middle School Gym.
8th Grade Wildcat Cheerleaders: Eme Banton, Kirby Drake, Bree Forshee, Kaylee Gehret, Aubrey Harper, Emma Johnson, Addye Law, Annaya Layne, Micah Mooney, Mya Moore, Sarah Beth Schlosser, Kyleigh Scott, Marlea West and Kara Wilson were all honored on both nights, They are coached by Constance Blane and Jamie Guthrie.
And 8th Grade Lady Cats’ basketball players honored were: MaJayla Butler, Madelyn Dean and Addison Marr. They are coached by DerFra Holt with assistant coaches: Constance Luttrell and Christy Richmond.
The Lady Cats jumped out to a 13-0 lead in the 1st Quarter with four points each from Butler and Dean. They didn’t make a shot from the floor in the 2nd Quarter but made five out of six free throws with Addy McKinney having three and Butler with two as their defense stifled the Lady Panthers as Franklin-Simpson led 18-9 at halftime.
In the 3rd Quarter, Rebecca Luttrell scored the opening basket along with a pair of free throws from McKinney. Later, Luttrell buried a 3-pointer and McKinney’s steal and layup gave the Lady Cats a 27-14 lead. Dean and Marr closed out the 4th Quarter by scoring four points each as Franklin-Simpson who was led by Butler’s 10 points, closed out their regular season with a 35-23 13th District victory over the Russellville Lady Panthers.
The Lady Cats will compete in the season ending 13th District Girls’ Basketball Tournament hosted by Russellville High School on Saturday.
