The Franklin-Simpson Wildcats survived a barrage of 3-pointers from the Todd County Central Rebels as Jalen Briscoe and DeMarcus Hogan combined to score 55 points as the Wildcats rallied in the 4th Quarter for the 72-62 victory.
Briscoe and Hogan combined to score 10 of the 12 points for the Wildcats in the 1st Quarter. But the Rebels made five 3-pointers from three different players for a 19-12 lead. Jamison Glass had a huge 2nd Quarter for the Rebels but Franklin-Simpson were dropping 3-pointers as Sam Mylor buried one that started the 2nd Quarter and Gavin Dickerson drained one at the buzzer to end the 1st Half as they trailed 31-26 at intermission.
The lead switched back and forth on a couple of occasions as Hogan, who dropped two 3-pointers, scored 14 points in the 3rd Quarter for the Wildcats. But Todd County Central were equal to the task as Preston Rager, who scored 10 points in the quarter, made two 3-pointers as the team made four from long distance as Franklin-Simpson trailed 53-48.
But in the 4th Quarter, senior leadership and “Wildcat Pride” was on display as they scored 11 straight points to take a 59-55 lead. Briscoe and Hogan combined to make nine free throws down the stretch as they outscored the Rebels 24-9 in the quarter and overcame a seven point deficit for the 72-62 13th District victory.
Jalen Briscoe, who made 15 of his 19 free throws and grabbed a team high of seven rebounds, scored a game high of 30 points with DeMarcus Hogan adding 25 points with five rebounds for the Wildcats.
Four players scored in double figures for the Rebels, led by Preston Rager’s 19 points.
The Wildcats will play the Russellville Panthers twice this week. Their first game will be at the F-S Gym on Tuesday night with tip-off time to follow the conclusion of the girls’ game. WFKN Radio will broadcast the girls/boys’ doubleheader starting at 5:50 p.m.
