The Franklin-Simpson Wildcats gave up seven 3-pointers in the 1st Half that led to their 55-44 loss to the Russellville Panthers on Wednesday night at the F-S Gym on Frank Cardwell Court,.
With the loss, the Wildcats’ 19-game 13th District win streak came to an end as the Wildcats dropped to 3-1 in the 13th District while the Panthers are on top of the district with a record of 3-0.
Franklin-Simpson led early on 6-2 with Gabe Jones, who knocked down a 3-pointer in the 1st Quarter, scoring five points. But then Russellville scored 12 unanswered points, connecting on four consecutive 3-point shots as the Wildcats suddenly trailed 14-6. Jalen Briscoe scored eight points in the 1st half with DeMarcus Hogan, who drained a 3-pointer, scoring four points in the 2nd Quarter. The Panthers extended their lead to double digits with three more 3-pointers as Franklin-Simpson trailed 32-19 at halftime.
The Wildcats trailed by as much as 13 points in the 3rd Quarter but were able to cut their deficit down to single digits, 39-31 as five players scored, led by Briscoe’s four points. In the 4th Quarter, Franklin-Simpson were within six points, 48-42 as Briscoe and Hogan each scored four points and Gavin Dickerson drained a 3-pointer. But Russellville made seven of their eight free throws down the stretch and game away with the 55-44 victory over the Wildcats.
Jalen Briscoe led the Wildcats with 16 points with Gabe Jones scoring 11 points and DeMarcus Hogan adding 10. Eli McMurry led all scorers with a game high of 18 points with Nick Woodard scoring 10 points for the Panthers,
The Wildcats and Panthers will play each other again on Friday night at Russellville High School’s Panther Gym on Jim Young Court. Tip-off time will be immediately following the conclusion of the girls’ game and WFKN will broadcast both girls/boys varsity games starting at 5:50 p.m.
