The Franklin-Simpson Lady Cats’ basketball team outscored the Russellville Lady Panthers 15-5 in the 4th Quarter for the 49-39 victory that clinched the 13th District regular season championship Friday night at the Panthers’ Gym on Jim Young Court at Russellville High School.
Franklin-Simpson will be the number one seed in the upcoming 13th District Girls’ Basketball Tournament hosted by Todd County Central High School in a couple of weeks.
The Lady Cats scored 10 unanswered points to lead 10-2 in the 1st quarter as Kloie Smith scored six points with two points each from Lyniah Brown and Naja Nolan. A’miyah Collier scored eight points in the 2nd Quarter as the Lady Panthers responded by tying the game. But two 3-pointers from Jasmine Savage along with a basket from Vanessa Ray were key in Franklin-Simpson leading 23-20 at halftime.
Malyea Parrtinger scored five points in the 3rd Quarter with Karelyn McAlister dropping her first 3-pointer of the game. Collier led Russellville with seven points in the period as the game was tied 34-34. But the Lady Cats closed the game on a 15-5 run with great defense by holding the Lady Panthers to two made field goals and making nine of their 12 free throws in winning time as they became the 13th District regular season champions with their 49-39 victory over Russellville.
Kloie Smith scored a team high of 15 points with Katelyn Mcalister adding 10 for the Lady Cats.
A’miyah Collier scored a game high of 18 points for the Lady Panthers with Lareesha Cawthorne scoring 14 points.
The Lady Cats will play at the Barren County Trojanettes in a match up of two of the top teams in the 4th Region on Tuesday night. Tip-off time is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. and wFKN will broadcast the game starting at 5:50 p.m.
