Wildcats pick up a tough, grueling win at Barren County, 55-51

The Franklin-Simpson Wildcats’ basketball team went on the road and picked up a 55-51 victory in a tough, grueling game at the Barren County Trojans in a matchup of two of the top 10 ranked teams in the 4th Region..

Three lead changes with two ties occurred in the 1st Quarter as DeMarcus Hogan led the Wildcats with six points with Jalen Briscoe adding four points. O.J. Gamble made the team’s first 3-pointer of the game. Ayden Miller led the Trojans with six points as Franklin-Simpson led 16-11. Gamble and Jones made two more 3-pointers for the Wildcats in the 2nd Quarter as Eli Brooks buried a 3-pointer for Barren County but Franklin-Simpson led 24-20 at halftime.

Three more lead changes and ties occurred in the 3rd Quarter as Briscoe and Hogan combined to score all 11 points for the Wildcats. Carson Beckham and Tate Spillman each drained a 3-pointer for the Trojans as Brooks led them in scoring with six points in the period. Franklin-Simpson trailed 40-35 early in the 4th Quarter as Gavin Dickerson’s bucket and Jones’ 3-pointer tied the game at 40-40. Hogan’s traditional three-point play gave them the lead, 43-40. Then Jones’ basket off a steal by Sam Mylor along with a basket from Briscoe gave them a 47-42 lead. Briscoe and Jones combined to make all right free throws down the stretch as Franklin-Simpson came away with a tough 55-51 victory over Barren County.

Jalen Briscoe led all scorers with a game high of 19 points with Gabe Jones scoring 15 points and DeMarcus Hogan adding  13 for the Wildcats.

Eli Brooks scored a team high of 14 points with Atyden Miller scoring 13 points for the Trojans and Tate Spillman adding 10.

The Wildcats will play their final 13th District game of the season when they host the Logan County Cougars on Friday night at the F-S Gym on Frank Cardwell Court for 2023 Basketball Homecoming. Tip-off time for the boys/girls’ varsity doubleheader will start at 6:00 p.m.
